After years of dreaming of becoming an LGV driver and driving large goods on international trips, Leona's dreams are starting to becoming a reality. Thanks to government funding to develop Skills for Life, Leona has been able to access a Novice to Professional Driver Skills Bootcamp here at Tyneside Training Services. The Skills Bootcamps allows learners with only a car licence to transform their careers by undertaking full LGV training programmes at no cost to themselves and gaining a Class 2 Licence. The Journey begins with an induction day followed by a medical and five days of classroom training learning all the necessary theory to keep drivers safe and legal on the road, which Leona has now completed. Leona now has some revision to do using the DTS subscription provided by TTS in preparation for her theory tests in September. Upon passing the theory test the real excitement begins with practical training in a Class 2 vehicle learning how to reverse and manoeuvre such a large vehicle ready for the final series of tests and that all important Class 2 licence.

Leona's thoughts on her initial experience:
Firstly I just want to say a massive thank you to all of the staff for allowing this to happen with out you people there would be very limited success.
The support I have from the staff was absolutely phenomenal from picking up the phone arranging to be on the course to actually getting here has to be the smoothest transition I have ever had. All paperwork was done locations timing were perfect.
The experience in the classroom was amazing the trainer Martin was absolutely second to none in and out of the classroom his professionalism was outstanding. He made sure he understood us as learners and give us all the advice he possibly could. Martin is an absolute credit to this company and as a management team you should be so proud and grateful you have someone like him. Martins level of knowledge and professionalism is hard to find.
My barriers have been my confidence with my theory test thinking i would never get there and you guys and Martin have built that up and proved to me I can do it.
My hopes after passing my test I hope to be on the road for a few years doing international driving and haulage. Then hopefully become an instructor myself one day.
I would absolutely without a doubt recommend you as a company to everyone I can imagine. I would absolutely love to come back and get my class 1 license and any other tickets I can get.
