World Mental Health Day

26th August, 2025

Jeff Maughn’s Inspiring Efforts for Mind Charity

At sunrise on Sunday 28th September, Jeff Maughn, Transport Manager and HGV Trainer at TTS, took part in the UK’s largest “Skinny Dip” at Druridge Bay in Northumberland — all in support of the Mind charity.

A Veteran of 23 years’ service in the Royal Engineers, Jeff continues to show courage and compassion in everything he does. This time, he wasn’t alone — joined by his two sons, Joe and Charlie, who serve in the Royal Navy and Royal Engineers respectively. Together, they braved the cold North Sea to raise awareness and funds for a cause very close to their hearts: mental health.

So far, Jeff and his family have raised over £270 at our office, with more sponsorships still coming in. A huge well done to Jeff for leading by example and reminding us all of the importance of talking about mental health and supporting each other.

Why Mental Health Awareness Matters in Transport and Logistics

The transport and logistics sector faces unique challenges when it comes to mental health. Long hours, isolation, tight deadlines, and limited social contact can all contribute to stress, anxiety, and depression.

Statistics show that HGV drivers are 20% more likely to die by suicide than the national average, which is why we at TTS are deeply committed to supporting initiatives that raise awareness and promote open conversations around mental wellbeing.

Our Ongoing Commitment to Mental Health Support

At TTS, we believe that mental health is just as important as physical health. Over the years, we’ve worked with charities and community organisations to provide awareness, training, and support for those in our industry.

We actively participate in fundraising events, sponsor awareness days, and ensure our training programmes highlight the importance of looking after mental wellbeing — not only for drivers but for everyone across the transport and logistics sector.

Raising Awareness Through Our Courses

Our courses don’t just focus on compliance and technical skills — they also encourage discussions about stress management, resilience, and mental wellbeing in the workplace. By embedding mental health awareness into our training, we aim to create safer, healthier, and more supportive working environments across the industry.

A Shared Effort

This World Mental Health Day, we celebrate individuals like Jeff Maughn, whose dedication and compassion inspire us all. His efforts remind us that every act of support — whether it’s a conversation, a fundraiser, or a sunrise swim — helps make a difference.

Together, we can break the stigma, raise awareness, and ensure that everyone in our industry feels supported — because mental health matters every day of the year.
