Tow Trailers with C1 Vehicles Legally and Safely
C1+E training allows you to drive C1 category vehicles with trailers over 750kg, making it essential for paramedics, mobile businesses, or delivery drivers using vans and trailers. This licence ensures full compliance with towing regulations and safety standards.
What is Category C1+E Training?
The LGV Category C1+E course qualifies you to drive medium-sized goods vehicles (3.5 to 7.5 tonnes) with a trailer over 750 kg. This licence is ideal for those who need to tow heavier loads—such as paramedics with ambulance trailers, tradespeople with equipment, or drivers of horseboxes and recovery vehicles. The course builds on your existing C1 entitlement and focuses on safe trailer handling, coupling and uncoupling, and advanced driving techniques.
What's Included?
- Medical and licence application support (D2/D4 forms).
- Theory test preparation, if not already completed.
- Driver CPC training (Modules 2 & 4) for commercial drivers.
- Practical training in C1+E vehicles with expert instructors.
- Coupling/uncoupling procedures, reversing, and trailer manoeuvring.
- DVSA practical test preparation (Modules 3a & 3b).
- Access to online learning resources and mock exams.
Entry Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Hold a full Category C1 licence.
- Pass a driver medical examination (if not already done).
- Obtain a provisional Category C1+E licence.
- Complete Driver CPC if driving professionally.
