Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) is a legal requirement for all professional bus, coach, and lorry drivers. This ongoing training ensures drivers remain safe, skilled, and up to date with industry regulations.
What is Driver CPC Training?
Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) training is a legal requirement for professional lorry, bus, and coach drivers in the UK. It ensures drivers maintain high standards of road safety, legal compliance, and professional knowledge. The training is split into two types: Initial CPC for new drivers and Periodic CPC for those already qualified. Periodic training involves completing 35 hours every 5 years to retain your Driver CPC qualification and continue driving professionally.
What's Included?
- 35 hours of periodic training, delivered in 7-hour modules (classroom, online, or blended).
- Up-to-date content covering road safety, tachograph rules, driver wellbeing, fuel efficiency, and legal responsibilities.
- Interactive sessions with qualified instructors, including case studies and group discussions.
- Certificate of attendance for each module completed.
- Access to e-learning options for flexible study (where available).
- Optional modules may include first aid, fire safety, or safe loading practices.
Entry Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Hold a valid UK driving licence for the relevant vehicle category (e.g., Category C, D).
- For Initial CPC, you must pass Modules 2 and 4 (case study and practical demonstration).
- For Periodic CPC, you must complete 35 hours of approved training every 5 years.
