Every Learner Deserves the Opportunity to Succeed
At Tyneside Training Services (TTS), we believe everyone should have access to high quality training, regardless of their individual circumstances. By adapting our approach to suit each learner, we aim to create an environment where everyone feels confident, supported and able to achieve their goals.
One recent learner shared their experience of completing LGV training as a deaf person and highlighted how small adjustments made a significant difference throughout their journey.
"Communication can often be challenging in training environments, particularly in group settings and practical driving situations, so finding a provider that was open minded and willing to adapt their approach was very important to me."
From day one, our team focused on making communication as accessible as possible. Through clear demonstrations, visual prompts, gestures and patient instruction, the learner felt welcomed and fully supported throughout the programme.
A special mention was given to LGV Instructor Simon, whose willingness to adapt his teaching style helped build confidence behind the wheel.
"Simon used basic sign language, which was very beneficial and helped me feel more comfortable and included during lessons."
The learner explained that Simon continually adjusted his delivery, making practical training as visual as possible while regularly checking whether there were additional ways to improve communication.
"His open minded approach made a huge difference to my confidence and progress."
The learner also highlighted the importance of recognising that every deaf person communicates differently. Some people use British Sign Language (BSL), others lip read, while many rely on different combinations of communication methods. By taking the time to understand individual preferences, our team was able to provide a more personalised learning experience.
One to one practical training was particularly valuable, creating a relaxed environment where communication was easier and the learner could fully focus on developing their driving skills.
A Training Provider That Adapts
At TTS, we know that inclusive training isn't about treating everyone the same. It's about understanding individual needs and adapting our delivery to help every learner achieve success.
Reflecting on their experience, the learner said:
"I would definitely recommend this programme to the deaf community because the staff genuinely care and are willing to adapt their training to meet individual needs. Their patience, flexibility and supportive attitude helped me feel capable and confident throughout my journey."
We are incredibly proud to support learners from all backgrounds and remain committed to creating an inclusive learning environment where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
