First Aid Mental Health training teaches practical skills to identify and assist colleagues experiencing mental health difficulties. This course helps create a safer, more understanding workplace by improving awareness and early intervention.
What is Mental Health First Aid Training?
This one-day qualification provides learners with the knowledge and confidence to recognise a range of common mental health conditions and offer initial support. It’s ideal for individuals in any workplace or community setting who want to better understand mental health, reduce stigma, and promote a positive mental health culture. While not a clinical qualification, it equips participants to start supportive conversations and signpost others to professional help when needed.
What's Included?
- Understanding what mental health is and why people develop mental health conditions.
- Recognising signs and symptoms of conditions such as depression, anxiety, psychosis, eating disorders, self-harm, and substance misuse.
- Learning how to start a supportive conversation and provide practical guidance.
- Exploring the impact of stress and how to manage it.
- Introduction to the First Aid for Mental Health Action Plan.
- Guidance on creating a positive mental health culture in the workplace.
- Assessment via multiple-choice questions and/or professional discussion.
- Certificate valid for 3 years upon successful completion.
Entry Requirements
- Must be 14 years or older.
- No prior qualifications or mental health experience required.
- A basic level of English literacy is recommended for understanding course content and completing the assessment.
