What is a Company Van Driver Assessment?​

A Pre-Employment Driving Assessment (Van) is designed to assess the competence, safety awareness and practical driving ability of individuals applying for roles that require the operation of light commercial vehicles.

The assessment provides employers with confidence that candidates can safely operate a van, understand their legal responsibilities and demonstrate the professional driving standards expected within the workplace. It is suitable for organisations recruiting delivery drivers, service engineers, technicians, maintenance staff and any employee who will regularly drive a commercial van.

Delivered by experienced driving assessors, the assessment combines a practical on-road drive with vehicle safety checks and verbal questioning to provide a comprehensive evaluation of each candidate's abilities.

• Professional practical driving assessment delivered by experienced fleet driver assessors

• Vehicle familiarisation covering dimensions, blind spots, controls and safe vehicle operation

• Daily walk-around vehicle safety checks including tyres, lights, mirrors, load area security and defect reporting

• Practical assessment covering urban, rural, dual carriageway and motorway driving (where available)

• Assessment of reversing, manoeuvring, parking and restricted space driving

• Load security awareness including weight distribution, load restraint and vehicle stability principles

• Assessment of observation, hazard perception, planning, speed management and defensive driving techniques

• Verbal knowledge assessment covering driver responsibilities, company expectations and road traffic legislation

• Comprehensive assessment report highlighting strengths, recommendations and any additional training requirements
